The Beacon Independent Film Festival and The Howland Cultural Center are pleased to present the documentary Chasing Ghosts: Beyond The Arcade (Director’s Cut).
The movie takes place in 1982 at the dawn of the video-game age. The world’s best gamers gathered together in a now-legendary meeting at Iowa’s Twin Galaxies arcade. This led to the nationally televised 1982 Video Game World Championships, a touring National Video Game Team, and the promise of fame, fortune and groupies. This documentary looks at the players then and now, offering a fascinating look at the history of gaming at the very beginning of what has now become a billion dollar industry.
Chasing Ghosts: Beyond the Arcade premiered at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, where it was nominated for the coveted Grand Jury Prize.
Beacon resident Michael Verrechia is the producer of this film and we will have a Q&A with him following the screening. Also, before the movie we will show the extended trailer for Michael Moore’s Where To Invade Next, which begins in theaters February 12.
