When is the festival?
BIFF comes around each September. Mark your calendar for our 2017 festival: September 15-17.
What are the Submission deadlines for BIFF 2017?
We encourage you to submit your film before January 15, to take advantage of lower submission fees.
Early Submission: November 15 – January 15, 2017
General Submission: January 16- May 15, 2017
Is there a submission fee?
As an entirely volunteer-run, non-profit organization, BIFF has instituted a non-refundable submission fee to enable us to process submissions and aid in program development.

Do you give out awards?
For our 5th season, BIFF will announce a juried best- film award. Please stay tuned for details.
Does BIFF have premiere requirements?
While we do not require premiere screening rights, we also take no responsibility for stipulations of your distribution agreements or copyrights for prior television, film, internet or festival showings.
Further, please let us know where and when you are screening so we can help to promote your work!
Am I required to obtain rights for copyrighted material included in my film?
Legally, clearance for copyrighted material included in your film must be obtained before public screening. BIFF does not check for, nor take responsibility for the inclusion of uncleared materials in film submissions or selections. Filmmakers are responsible for securing festival clearance rights for music, stock footage or any other material, to avoid potential rights infringements.
Can I submit my film as a “rough cut”?
Absolutely. Please indicate your estimated completion date, and your intentions for the project.
Submissions can be considered as “Works In Progress” or as completed works.
How can I get my DVD back?
We are happy to return DVD’s if you provide us with a self-addressed, stamped envelope with the appropriate postage. BIFF takes no responsibility for lost or returned screeners.
Does BIFF project digitally at the Festival?
Yes! In most cases, BIFF projects digitally.
